I'm delighted to announce that two new gambling addiction education & treatment programs are now available from Problem Gambling Ireland.  Groups of up to 15 participants can be facilitated.

The first program is 2 x 90 minute group sessions for family and friends of problem gamblers, as well as helping professionals and groups that may potentially be vulnerable to gambling addiction.  It covers:
  • defining problem gambling
  • gambling prevalence rates
  • risk factors of problem gambling
  • impacts of problem gambling
  • co-existing substance and gambling addictions
  • mood disorders and problem gambling
  • impulsivity
  • psychosis
  • the continuum of gambling behaviour
  • randomness in gambling
  • independent outcomes in gambling
  • the 'house edge' (the house always  wins)
  • cognitive distortions
  • harm reduction options
  • helpful resources for problem gambling
The second program is 4 x 90 minute sessions.  It incorporates the above-mentioned sessions, followed by a further two treatment-focused sessions.  It is directed towards people who have gambling addiction issues.  It covers:
  • goal setting
  • triggers (to gamble)
  • gambling situations
  • coping strategies for high-risk situations
  • action plans (for triggers)
Currently, the program is available to organisations based in counties: Dublin, Wicklow, Wexford, Waterford, Kilkenny, Carlow, Tipperary, Limerick,  Kildare, Laois and Cork (East).  Problem Gambling Ireland plan to make the program available in other parts of the country shortly, through a network of affiliate facilitators.

Costs:

Program 1 (2 x 90 minute sessions ) - €550 (up to 15 participants)

Program 2 (4 x 90 minute sessions) - €1100 (up to 15 participants)
