Youth Gambling Awarness Project (YGAP)Our Youth Gambling Awareness Programme is designed to help young people understand the risks associated with gambling. We do this from a non-judgmental, harm-prevention and minimisation standpoint. We are aware that many young people gamble, while still underage. In fact, recent research compiled for us by students at Trinity College Dublin, found that 67% of the secondary school students they interviewed (aged 15-18) had already tried gambling.
The talks are delivered by Tony O'Reilly, co-author of 'Tony10', and fully-qualified addiction counsellor. We can deliver either in-person or by webinar. The aim of this programme is to help young people understand how gambling works (in terms of probability), as well as educating students on the warning signs of a gambling problem and how to act responsibly, if gambling. We will begin rolling out our programme to Transition Year students in 2018. The workshop lasts for between 90 minutes and 3 hours (depending on the needs of the school) and we also have a wide range of modules and projects, which teachers can deliver after the workshop has been completed. We also provide ongoing phone and email support to teachers, students and parents. We aim to begin fundraising in early 2018, in order to cover the cost of delivery of this programme, so that we can provide it free of charge to schools across the country. Workplace gambling can have a devastating affect on the individual(s) in question, as well as creating serious reputational damage for the organisation. For more information, check out our Workplace Gambling page. The service operates on a donation-based model. No donation is too small. We do not want limited finances to be an obstacle to individuals and organisations getting help. (For organisations that would prefer to be invoiced, we can also provide that service.)
